From March 1st to March 2nd, our partner AIMPLAS celebrated virtually the International Seminar Biotechnology Applied to the Plastic Sector.
The main topic of the session was revolving around the challenges and opportunities offered by biotechnology in the plastics sector in terms of waste management and treatment methods, as well as trends and initiatives being implemented internationally to achieve the goals set by the European Union.
The event counts on the presence of several experts in the field of plastic and biotechnology such as Angelo Innamorati from the European Commission together with some of our UPLIFT colleagues.
Belén Monje Martínez from AIMPLAS talked about Challenges and opportunities in biomass valorisation for the plastics industry. Lena Decuyper introduced how Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant scales up circular innovations in the plastics industry and last but not least, Alessandro Pellis explained UPLIFT in the framework of Biotechnological approaches to enable plastics circularity.
The conference also included a poster session to showcase research and development projects carried out in the last three years on any of the topics discussed in the event.
